OPTION 1: JNB to Malealelodge via Bloemfonten

JOHANNESBURG TO MALEALEA LODGE VIA BLOEMFONTEIN

We recommend traveling via Bloemfontein for a smoother and safer journey:

🛣️ Suggested Route:
Take the N1 south from Johannesburg toward Bloemfontein.
Turn onto the R701 to Dewetsdorp/Wepener.
Enter Lesotho at the Van Rooyenshek Border Post.

🏁 Why this route?
Better road quality – it avoids the pothole-ridden sections often found on alternative routes.
Quicker border crossing – bypasses the long queues at the Maseru Bridge border.
Less traffic – avoids congestion in Maseru city.

OPTION 2:  JNB TO MALEALEA LODGE VIA BETHLEHEM

Johannesburg to Malealea Lodge via Bethlehem

🛣️ Alterntive Route:

Take the N3 east from Johannesburg toward Durban.

Just before Villiers, turn off the N3 and onto the R26 and continue via Bethlehem.

Stay on the R26 to Ladybrand, then turn onto the N8 toward Maseru.

More scenic drive through the eastern Free State
Good tar roads for most of the journey
Direct access to Maseru
